Connfest
has no structure, it has no rules and it has no guidelines.
It’s a celebration of fun, love and laughter. Grab
a tent, find a field, take your friends and have some
fun (perhaps with the help of some Bobby Conn music).
In
the summer of 2002 a group of young Scottish Bobby Conn fans
made their way to St
Andrews with their
tents for a night of eating, drinking and generally being
merry. It was during the time that all the music festivals
were happening in the UK and
with the mixture of camping, music and alcohol it felt
very festival-like. Bobby Conn albums featured highly
and those who could played tributes on the guitar……………Connfest
was born.
It
became easy to give the trip a name rather than always
referring to “that night we went camping in St
Andrews and played
music all night”. They simply called it “Connfest”.
It was decided then to make this an annual event and it
has remained so ever since. Every year since, these people
have set up camp somewhere and spent hours listening to
Mr Conn and discussing what the future of Connfest could
be, and the later into the night it gets the more outrageous
the ideas become.
What
now for Connfest? The ultimate idea would be to involve
as many people as possible. Have groups of people all
over the country, if not the world, doing the same thing
at the same time. One weekend a year when Conn fans
make a pilgrimage (well sort of) to wherever they feel,
and celebrate peace love and Bobby Conn. After the event
photographs can be sent to this website and the full
size of the weekend will be seen, sort of a cyber-festival.
Once again, there are no rules or guidelines as to what
you do on this weekend, it’s entirely up to you.
The only stipulation is that you have fun and celebrate
Bobby Conn.
Let’s
start the phenomenon this year (technically Connfest's 4th year).
Keep an eye on this website and the dates to be used for
this year's event will be posted later in the spring and
the event itself will be during the summer. Meanwhile, have
a look at some of the photographs
from last years event!
